Old Mutual’s Product Solutions had a project and required top actuarial graduates to be contracted to this project on short notice. This initiative was not only pivotal for Old Mutual’s strategic objectives but also offered a valuable opportunity for graduates to gain work experience in a major insurance firm. Outsized, being the recognised leader in the South African market for top independent talent, was asked to build a talent pool of actuarial graduates who had recently completed their qualifications, or that were due to complete their qualifications that same year.

What we did

Outsized applied a two-pronged approach to match top actuarial graduates to Old Mutual: Existing independent actuarial talent on our platform, as well as identifying, vetting, and onboarding recent & soon-to-be actuarial graduates that were interested in project-based work that could lead to permanent positions.

We used our three-step curation process in terms of vetting independent professionals. This rigorous selection process led us to identify and present a handpicked group of 8 outstanding and diverse group graduates from the Western Cape and Gauteng regions.

The Outcomes

  • We presented 8 consultants, and all 8 consultants received a contract
  • 5 consultants received contract extensions
  • Old Mutual were able to cover ground in their project
  • It allowed the graduates to gain much needed work experience
  • 3 of the 8 graduates secured permanent employment thanks to having gaining relevant work experience
